Reporting Chickenpox and Shingles:
A note from the school nurse regarding reporting chickenpox and shingles: Please notify the school nurse if your child is absent from school due to chickenpox (also called varicella) or shingles (also called zoster). Schools are required to contact the Minnesota Department of Health when chickenpox and shingles occur in students. Tracking chickenpox and shingles helps evalute the effectiveness of immunization requirements and recommendations. Also, please let the school nurse know: Whether or not a healthcare provider diagnosed your child's illness by lab testing or by examination and whether your child has been vaccinated against chickenpox, the date of vaccination and the clinic. Although schools keep children's immunization records, their records of chickenpox shots may not be up to date for all students. Your assistance is greatly appreciated and essential to the efforts of your school nurse and MDH in keeping Minnesota children healthy. (Please note: Info reported by the school to MDH is private and, by law, may only be discussed by MDH staff with the parent or guardian, or the child's healthcare provider. It cannot be shared with others without the parent or guardian's permission. Reporting diseases to MDH is mandated by the Minnesota Communicable Disease Reporting Rule, chapter 4605.)

LATCHKEY PROGRAM UPDATE
We continue to search for a fill-in person for Emily Hewitt when she is unable to come. We would really like to keep our Latchkey program going but will need a person who is willing to be on call for one or two days a week. If you know of anyone, please let Mr. or Mrs. Erdman know. Thank you for letting your children know each morning if they are staying for Latchkey. This has been very helpful.
PTL MEETING
Thank you to all the parents who were able to come to the meeting Wednesday night. Your input and ideas are so helpful as we work to make ILS the best school possible. It was so close for grades 5th-6th and 7th-8th that both groups will enjoy ice cream sundaes today. Way to go!
YOUTH GROUP MEETING
Our 7th 12th grade students and friends are invited to attend our church’s youth group hayride coming up on Sunday, October 5, at 5:30 pm. We will meet at school for a meeting and then enjoy a hayride and bonfire with hotdogs and s’mores! Everyone in 7th 12th grade is invited to attendyou do not need to be a member of our church.
PENNIES FOR THE PLAYGROUND
The Pennies for the Playground Fund will continue. You can send in any of your change, and we will add it to our Playground Fund. There are a few more items we would like to add to the playground, so the pennies will be very helpful.
